Criteria for Admission - Teen Eating Disorder PHP

Applicants seeking admission to the teen eating disorder PHP must be 12 – 17 years old, and have a primary eating disorder or disordered eating patterns:

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Binge Eating Disorder
  • Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)
  • Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder (OSFED)
  • Unspecified Feeding or Eating Disorder (UFED)

The family will be required to attend treatment on Wednesday afternoons throughout the duration of their loved one’s treatment.

Admissions Process:

  • Call the Admissions Department at 1-844-HOPEWAY or submit an inquiry form via the website.
  • Our Admission Specialists will provide general information about our program and conduct a clinical assessment with the adolescent as well as an interview with the potential client’s parents or guardians. This will help us determine if the program can effectively meet the individual’s needs. If psychological or psychoeducational testing has previously been completed, those records will need to be reviewed by your Admissions Specialist.
  • You will need to submit medical records from your physician that includes a history & physical, growth curves and complete lab work within the last month to ensure medical stability. 
  • We will provide you with the Insurance Verification Form to complete that allows us to check insurance benefits and link you to one of our Financial Specialists who can answer any questions you may have regarding the financial aspects of service.
  • Once you complete the Insurance Verification Form and copy both sides of your insurance card, you can submit the documents to your Admissions Specialist. 
  • Lastly, our psychiatrist will complete a psychiatric consultation and the adolescent will admit the following program day.

Exclusionary Criteria:

  • The need for a higher level of care or acute hospitalization (which may include acute suicidal, homicidal or self-injurious behaviors or active psychosis);
  • The individual’s medical records indicate abnormalities in lab work and or vital sign instability;
  • The individual is in need of nasogastric or special feeding modalities;
  • The individual is experiencing severe, persistent and disabling purging behaviors;
  • The individual is less than 75% of their ideal body weight and refuses to eat;
  • Lack or absence of family support or severe family conflict within the home that will prohibit the family from participating in family programming;
  • The individual has very poor to poor motivation that impacts their ability to receive benefit from the program.

Insurance

HopeWay’s teen mental health and teen & young adult eating disorder programs are currently out-of-network. To ensure clients have an understanding of the financial process, we will verify out-of-network benefits and connect you with a Financial Specialist to answer any questions you may have. As an out-of-network provider, HopeWay will attempt to receive authorization for services and file claims for our clients. We will collect an upfront payment for services and the client’s insurance company will reimburse the subscriber directly based on their insurance policy terms. To help defray the cost, we have financial assistance available based on a demonstrated financial need.
